Looking Back ......

Episode 1

I was born a poor white boy at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

This was way back when Alaska was still just a territory and the launching of Sputnik 1 was less than 6 months away. Had to make you work to figure out how old I was.

Dad was a Military Policeman with the Army and mom had to stay home and change and wash my shitty diapers.

Dad says they drove back to North Carolina when I was about 4 months old. He said most of the roads weren't paved back then and he had to wrap the gas tank in old inner tubes to keep rocks from flying up and puncturing the tank.

Now I know why I'm so crazy. My little brain was bounced around all those rocky roads for over 4,600 miles. We're talking a good 70 hours of actual driving time on today's super highways. Don't know how long it took back then?

I'm still trying to picture mom stowing all those shitty diapers, and trying to keep my little ass clean during the trip. They didn't have "Pampers" or "Johnson Baby Wipes" back in those days. Those stinking ass diapers had to be stored somewhere in that old 52 Ford. Hell...they probably strapped my little stinky ass to the hood, just to get some relief!

Dad got out of the Army and had several jobs; Insurance man, Repo Man, Auto mechanic etc. We moved around quite a bit but always managed to stay in North Carolina. Moms didn't have to work back in those days because of all the shitty diapers!

Stay tuned for future episodes of "Looking Back"

Yes.....good title, how about shitty diapers 101.

You should be able to click on the blue word "old" and get the wikipedia run down on the year 1957.

Didn't think I was such an old fart did you? Probably older than your parents?

You came over and commented on my blog, the letters between my daughter and me. How did you find my blog? Next blog link?

I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for 5 years as a child, by the way. You surely don't remember any of it, since you left so young, but it was sure different from living down here in the lower '48.

And if you think women didn't have to 'work' back then, you've never changed a 'shitty diaper'. That, and keeping house with kids around, is definately work in my book. :)

Hi J

I noticed your comment on angryblackbitch blog and just got lucky enough to check your profile and go from there.

I jump from blog to blog like that a lot!

I have a guy in my office who has a sister that lives in Petersburg Alaska. Small world aint it.

I've never had the chance to go back and visit as an adult. Hopefully I'll take a vacation there one day.

Whoop's....messed up with the "Mom's didn't have to work" statement!LOL

I totally agree with you. And I have changed a "shitty diaper". My mom maid me change my little brother's diapers when I was 9 years old! I always tell him that's why I never had kids!LOL

Thanks for stopping by.
