Throughout most of the story, this movie's character is obsessed with getting in touch with ultimate reality and has little use for the "clutter and clatter" of mundane daily life. He admits to a colleague that "Emily tells me that she loves me but I don't know what that MEANS? I THINK it means that she prefers the pain we inflict on each other to the solitary pain we would otherwise inflict upon ourselves?" When, however, at the very end of the movie Emily has yet again pulled him back from the brink of the abyss of non-being, he finally says to her for the very first time, "I love you, Emily."

OK.....Can you tell me what movie this is? I wish I didn't relate to the way this character thinks. However.......sometimes I think my "Emily" & Abigail inflict the only true joy in my life!........Hmmmmmm......what makes us post the things we post?

It came out about 28 years ago, so you most likley have seen it by now!

Well said. And I don't know. Part of it is taking the risk and not caring what others think. For me it can be truly theraputic.

Altered States...that movie always freaked me out when I was little.

Yay!!!!Ms.Mamma.....you got it!
That was the first major role for William Hurt playing an emotionally obsessed scientist!
I've been a "Hurt" fan ever since!

"Body Heat" was good too, and it turned me on to Kathleen Turner!

Great guess, ignoring character names I was going to say Sophie's Choice. Are people ever overcome by the cuteness factor for these pooches and pick them up to give them a hug. I'd never be so rude, but still...

I can't say as anyone actually has grabbed one and picked it up with out asking! They usually just stoop down to their level and Emily tries to lick them in the face while Abigail jumps and wiggles up against them uncontrollably. Abigail will try to nibble your hand without using her teeth? She doesn't lick like Emily, and I don't quite know how to describe it? It's like she lets her flabby jaws wrap around her teeth while she's nibbling at your hands?

Abigail always steals the show, but Emily is our loyal little lover.

Wanda Sykes tells a story about strangers picking up her dog. That's quite a trick with the nibbling. I've gotten smacked in the nose too many times to intentionally bend down. I'm usually around bigger dogs — big, crazy dogs who love a bit of comedy.

Wanda Sykes from the Chris Rock show? Wow! Haven't seen her in a while! She's one funny chic!

Emily only weighs about 17 pounds, and Abigail is pushing close to 40 pounds! She can get excited and hit ya like a ton of bricks sometimes!

Abigail is definitely the comedian around our house!

Do you have dogs? Or are you around someone else's?

No dogs of my own, sniff. Around my other dogs. Roscoe and Miss Vickers mostly. And a couch potato Brttany spaniel that goes from house to house getting snacks from people. Had a black lab growing up for awhile and later a dobie nutjob mix.

"No dogs of my own...... Around my other dogs"

OK....step away from the Christmas wine!

How can you have no dogs of your own, but be around YOUR other dogs?

Are you claiming your neighbors dogs as part of the family? I can relate to that!

A combination of Miller Lite mints and insomnia. Meant my cousin's dogs. But now you've got me hankering for some Christmas wine. What would you recommend?

Uncivil said...

Ahhhh.."Miller Lite" my favorite beer!

You do know that you are asking a Redneck's opinion on wine?

I've been drinking a little too much of the local stuff from the Duplin County Wine Cellar.

I like the North Carolina Red Christmas Wine!
